We have Wing WI records, particularly relating to the war years - including WI Committee minutes and the accounts 1939-45. We have seen the branch minutes, which are summarised in note form. Committee minutes show that the WI met regularly to organise branch meetings - branch meetings attended by all. One of the current WI members went through branch minutes and took notes. Branch minutes are now summarised in a Word document. As early as May the WI were discussing wartime contingencies and evacuation. Branch minutes are now summarised in a Word document. As early as May the WI were discussing wartime contingencies and evacuation. A member of Wing WI put together the notes and they reflect the entirety of the war period. Branch minutes: Meetings would have been put together by the secretary and focusing upon 'action points.' What was noted would have depended upon the secretary and their choices. They met once a month and continue to meet once a month. It is likely that the branch would have had some speakers during the period, as per the WI schedule. Committee meeting minutes in hand - Minutes have signatures, first entry for the war period October 3rd, 1939. We think that it is the President (Helen Tanver/Tarver) signing the minutes. Committee minutes show that as early as January 1938 they had invited a speaker for advice on air-raid precautions. The entry for October 3rd 1939 shows that the meetings were changed to the afternoon due to blackout conditions and that they would miss their 'social half hour.' Mrs Pease is mentioned. She was Deputy Chair of the sub-committee and it is believed that she lost three sons in the war. July 25th 1941: It is noted that a special committee was held to raise funds for war weapons. Accounts show that £5 was raised for the Spitfire fund and £2 was raised for the tobacco fund. It was also agreed to hold a garden party where they had 'stalls', 'tennis' and 'teas provided.' Accounts for 1942 show that they raised £16 for 'Warship Week.' Accounts also show that they raised 14 shillings for seeds in 1941, which we think is part of Dig for Britain.
