This article analyzes two memorials to Holocaust victims: Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen (Belgium) and the Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe, in Berlin. The main goal is to extract the lessons which are applicable to the Basque Country, with regard to the foundation of institutions dedicated to the memory of the victims of terrorism. We hold as well that the role of the historians is very important in dealing with a subject which is susceptible to political instrumentalization. ; En este artículo analizamos dos memoriales de víctimas del Holocausto: Kazerne Dossin, en Mechelen (Bélgica) y el Memorial de los judíos de Europa asesinados, en Berlín. El objetivo es extraer enseñanzas aplicables al País Vasco, de cara a la puesta en marcha de centros dedicados al recuerdo de las víctimas del terrorismo. A partir de los dos ejemplos mencionados, argumentamos que es posible y necesario alcanzar acuerdos básicos en materia de políticas públicas de memoria. Sostenemos, asimismo, que el papel de los historiadores es fundamental para afrontar con rigor un tema sensible y susceptible de utilización partidista.
