This report summarizes the results of a study of animal bones found during rescue excavations carried out in 1990 during the construction of the Nueva Fabrica urban development in the Tunjuelito valley in the south of Bogotá. The predominance of deer bones is interesting in view of the imprtance of this animal in American cultures from precolombian times. Deer, guinea pig, coatíes, weasels and different families of birds, fish and moluscs, disappeared from the area some time after the Spanish ·conquest when the area became an enormous agricultura! and cattle raising estate. The rapid urban expansion of Bogotá during the present century reduced the size of the farm until 1990 when, during the construction of the Nueva Fabrica development, the archaeological site was discovered.
