John Allen (1771-1843) is one of those historical figures overshadowed byother contemporary more important figures. In this case by Lord and Lady Holland. Allen served them as a physician, secretary and librarian for forty years, becoming one of the most prominent members of the Holland House Circle. In-terested in politics and Spanish History, Allen left a diary covering the first months of his second travel to Spain, in 1808. En este caso por Lord y Lady Holland, a los que sirvió como médico, secretario y bibliotecario durante cuarenta años, convirtiéndose en uno de los miembros más destacados del círculo de los Holland. Interesado por la política e historia española, Allen dejó escrito un diario que comprende los primeros meses de su segunda llegada a España, en 1808. El presente artículo analiza lo más significativo de unas memorias que se encuentran en la British Library, y que han permanecido inéditas hasta la actualidad.
