John Allen (1771-1843) is one of those historical figures overshadowed byother contemporary more important figures. In this case by Lord and Lady Holland. Allen served them as a physician, secretary and librarian for forty years, becoming one of the most prominent members of the Holland House Circle. In-terested in politics and Spanish History, Allen left a diary covering the first months of his second travel to Spain, in 1808.
