Demographic age structure and economic development: Evidence from Chinese provinces

We study the role of age structure in regional development in China. * The evolution of age structure accounts for nearly one-fifth of China's growth. * We distinguish the size and composition effects of the working-age population. * Our estimates show equally important roles of the size and composition effects.
