Wage determination and distribution in urban China and Vietnam: A comparative analysis
We reveal the sources of the wage differences between China and Vietnam in 2002. * Returns to observed wage determinants contribute more to the wage gap. * Differences in returns to industry is particular important for men. * Differences in education explain female wage differences at the bottom of the wage distribution. * Despite the lower wages, Vietnam may not be ready as the China alternative.
