HR on the net: the IRS guide - A wealth of information on every aspect of people management can be accessed at the click of a mouse - providing, of course, the busy HR manager knows where to look. Here, in our, special review of 50 leading HR-related websitcs, we present an overview of the best the web has to offer practitioners. The selected websites are grouped into seven categories: management and business - including, for example, the sites of the Confederation of British Industry and the Institute of Directors; flexible working and quality of working life - including Parents at Work, DfEE Work-Life Balance and the Telecentre Association., employee relations- industrial relations - including ACAS and DTI Employment Relations; people management-HRM - including the CIPD, the Industrial Society and Roffey Park Management Institute; equal opportunities - including the Commission for Racial Equality, the Disability Rights Cotrunission and the Equal Opportunities Commission; recruitment, training and development - including Investors in People, the Employment Service and learDdirect; and new technology-e-HR - including hr-now and e-peopleserve. Our site reviews attempt to give a flavour of the HR resources available and, where appropriate, alert readers to material that can be accessed or downloaded free. We also provide some indications of the main advantages and disadvantages of each site from an HR manager's perspective.
