e-HR: personnel tomorrow - We investigate an area of growing importance and interest to personnel practitioners: electronic HR. With the information revolution steadily changing the way organisations operate, the HR function cannot afford to ignore its possibilities - and the associated pitfalls. Based on detailed questioning-of a panel of 45 private and public sector employers, our survey begins by looking at e-HR systems, focusing on the approaches used, how and why they were introduced and how effective they are. We then look in more depth at the HR content of employers' intranets, and at how HR practitioners are making use of the bewildering array of software, CD-ROM and internet-based products on the market. A majority of our respondents believe that e-HR will enable the profession to develop a more strategic role by reducing routine administration and improving the quality of management information.
