Stress auditing - the OSI - The Occupational Stress Indicator is a widely used stress -profiling tool, designed for practical use in the workplace. It involves six interlinked, self-completion questionnaires, identifying sources of pressure, general patterns of behaviour, perceptions of control over events at work, coping strategies, employee health and job satisfaction. With the Health and Safety Commission now embarking on a major programme to develop standards of "good management practice" in occupational stress, this Practice Note addresses a key issue: the need for practical tools to define, understand and control work-related stress. With case examples, we show how, and where, the OSI works.
