Review body awards above inflation - For the second year running, the Government has agreed to implement in full the above -inflation awards recommended by the five independent pay review bodies which cover around 1.3 million nurses, doctors, health professionals, teachers, members of the armed forces and senior public servants. But although the Government has accepted the review body awards, these have again been tied to the introduction of new pay and grading structures which aim to link increased rewards to improved performance and service delivery. While this year's pay recommendations are broadly similar, the overall increases of around 3.3% mask some significant variations between and within the review body groups, with more generous settlements targeted at certain professions (such as experienced nurses and professions allied to medicine) where recruitment and retention difficulties are most acute.
