The hoard of silver coins from the village of Mehovine near Šabac, according to data available from earlier literature and the factual state, contains 489 (150) specimens, ranging from Nero to Maximinus I, and represents part of a larger, scattered find. The terminus post quem of the hoard’s burial can be seen from the denarii dated to the period from January 236 A.D. to the start or the first quarter of 238 A.D., although one should not overlook the fact that the find was scattered. It was discovered in the context of a villa rustica, suggesting that it belonged to the owner of the property. The reasons for its burial, given the broad approximation of the date to within the brief rule of Maximinus I, could be dual – internal fiscal policy and the violence of soldiers and of the local administration, or Maximinus’ preparations for a campaign on Rome in early 238 A.D., bearing in mind that the emperor had his base in those years in the immediate vicinity of Mehovine, in Sirmium.
