This dissertation is an analysis of the political thought of Romeyn de Hooghe. His ideas as expressed in his _Spiegel van Staat_ [Mirror of State] are contextualized by the many public debate at the end of the 17th century. This research show how De Hooghe tries to find a way out of the many polemics with his new civic morality.
