Father was in France, went over on D-Day +1 but was grounded in Channel so actually arrived D-Day +8. Was an accountant in the Quartermasters for the Royal Artillery, 75th Anti-Tank Regiment. Sent home cards from Europe (possibly Netherlands) to Iris including birthday and Christmas cards. Iris was evacuated to Buckinghamshire during the war which felt very far away. Remembers the 1st night of the Blitz (lived in Clapham Common), running through streets and being stopped by a policeman due to an unexploded bomb. Local homes were bombed and people killed.
