Taalideologie! Gematigdheid is ouderwets

This article highlights the views of language zealots of the first half of the 20th century. They were supporters of the introduction of the northern ('Hollandic') norm of the Dutch standard language, but at the same time they defended many aspects of the southern 'Flemish' variety of Dutch. They mainly disapproved of gallicisms. This tolerant attitude seems to have been forgotten in the recent sociolinguistic literature, that focuses all too often on the exaggerated prescriptive language views of purists of the 60s of the last century.
