Révision du stratotype loessique de Kesselt (Limbourg, Belgique) ; Revision of the loess stratotype of Kesselt (Limbourg, Belgium)

peer reviewed ; For forty years, the section of Kesselt has been considered as the Weichselian stratotype of eastern Middle Belgium. The recent advance of the quarry displays, interbedded at mid-height of the section, an interglacial paleosol overlain by a humic horizon containing reworked ash of an early Weichselian tephra. This finding allows us to displace the underlying series of loess and paleosols from Weichselian to Middle Pleistocene and modifies the chronostratigraphic interpretation of the lower half of the Kesselt stratotype. © Académie des Sciences.
