Diversidad y uso cultural de vertebrados terrestres en fragmentos boscosos carretera Transístmica Sabanitas - Puerto Escondido (Panamá)
Studies on diversity and conservation status of terrestrial vertebrates in the border zone to the roads of high traffic are little known in Panama, including the Trans-Isthmian Highway, which remains high diversity of forest fragments in spite of changes in land use that have increased significantly in the last fifty years. In order to know the richness, conservation status and cultural use of land vertebrates on the edge of this path, an inventory of terrestrial vertebrates between the stretch of road from Puerto Escondido to Sabanita province of Colón was made; between February and October 2... Studies on diversity and conservation status of terrestrial vertebrates in the border zone to the roads of high traffic are little known in Panama, including the Trans-Isthmian Highway, which remains high diversity of forest fragments in spite of changes in land use that have increased significantly in the last fifty years. In order to know the richness, conservation status and cultural use of land vertebrates on the edge of this path, an inventory of terrestrial vertebrates between the stretch of road from Puerto Escondido to Sabanita province of Colón was made; between February and October 2014. The techniques in which the assessment is based are transects inventory and analysis of the local human population. Of the animals found the identity of the species and number of individuals and cultural use was recorded. The conservation status of vertebrate species was based on the list of threatened species (ANAM, IUCN and CITES); the diversity of vertebrate species was estimated Margalef rates and Berger-Parker. 31 terrestrial vertebrate species in 31 families and 18 orders were recorded. 18 species of vertebrates are used by inhabitants of the area as food, medicine and pet ornament. As for conservation, 8 species are threatened by category national and international law: Tamandua Mexican, Dasyprocta punctata, Cuniculus paca, Bubulcus ibis, Aratinga nana, Trachemys scripta, Crocodylus acutus and Boa constrictor. The results suggest that there is a high diversity of terrestrial vertebrates at the edge of this road (5,641 Margalef Index, Berger-Parker Index 0.1618). It is suggested to raise some actions aimed at conservation of biodiversity.
