Characterization of the vegetation of the San Felipe table-land Camagüey, Cuba, for conservation purposes ; Caracterización de la vegetación de la meseta de San Felipe en Camagüey, Cuba, con propósitos de conservación
The vegetation in the San Felipe table-land, in north of Camagüey province was studied, which was poorly documented in the bibliography. The importance of this paper consists in the identification of plant formations and forest plantation as well as the present or potential threats it possess, for its conservation. The minimum area method was used to establish each quadrant, describing all stratus and substrates on it. The abundance was estimated by the scale proposed by Braun Blanquet and constant species were taken into consideration. To classify the vegetation known, another classifications... Mehr ...

To classify the vegetation known, another classifications already proposed were used and also the own experience of the authors. The plant formations that develop on the table-land are fresh-water communities, grasslands on the banks of streams and rivers, the savanna temporally flooded, savannas with small palms on serpentine, the scrub temporally flooded, the gallery forest, anthropogenic savannas and thicket complex, secondary mesophyllous semideciduous forest and culture vegetation represented by forest plantations and abandoned crops. The main identified threats to the vegetation are building roads, fires, modification of drainage, prolonged drought and possible mining. The savanna temporally flooded, the scrub temporally flooded and anthropogenic savannas and thicket complex are proposed as new plant formations for Cuba.
