Introduction Melioidosis is a deadly endemic disease in northern Australia and Southeast Asia, including Sabah, Malaysia, which is caused by the bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei . It contributes to high fatality rates, mainly due to misdiagnosis leading to the wrong treatment being administered to the patients.
