Recommendations on the risks from Coxiella burnetii in foodstuffs originating from sheep and goats

The Q-fever pathogen Coxiella (C.) burnetii is primarily transmitted from animals to humans by infected aerosol particles. As well as flu-like symptoms, a serious infection in humans can cause lung or liver infection or a combination of both. Because the bacteria can be released into the milk of infected animals, the consumption of milk and milk products may pose a risk to public health.
