OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that RBC transfusion in critically ill children is independently associated with increased mortality and morbidity. DESIGN: Retrospective, descriptive epidemiologic cohort study. SETTING: Single-center experience of a nine-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) facility.
