peer reviewed ; The Southern Netherlands and Franche-Comté Legation to the Holy See at the time of agent Laurent du Blioul (1573-1598) has never truly received interest from the historians. Most probably this is due to its apparent lack of stature. Indeed, at that time, it is subjected to Philippe II’s ambassador to Rome, and the freedom and flexibility allowed to its agent seems very limited. In this paper, this institution is studied under a socio-political perspective to point out the place that it would take up within the Monarchía’s romans networks of power. It appears from this research work that the legation is far to be marginalised. Quite at the opposite, the legation is able to use, maintain and increase the royalty influence on the city. Knowing how to use efficiently the many available exogenous resources, the institution does not appear anymore like an image of the Southern Netherlands diplomatic decline. On the contrary, it find its own place in thePhilippe II’s logic about composite Monarchy incorporation. ; La légation des Pays-Bas espagnols et de la Franche-Comté près le Saint-Siège au temps de l’agent Laurent du Blioul (1573-1598) n’a jamais véritablement rencontré l’intérêt des historiens. Cela est certainement dû à son manque d’envergure apparent. En effet, elle est, à cette époque, soumise à l’ambassadeur de Philippe II à Rome et la marge de manœuvre de son agent semble mince. Dans cet article, nous avons étudié l’institution sous un angle sociopolitique afin de dégager la place qu’elle occuperait au sein des réseaux de pouvoir romains de la Monarchía. Il ressort de cet examen que la légation est loin d’être marginalisée. Au contraire, celle-ci est capable d’utiliser mais aussi d’entretenir et d’accroitre l’influence que la royauté exerce sur la ville.
