John Finn writes from Holland to his brother, Robert James "Jim" Finn, in St. Albans, Vermont, on 17 February 1945; he writes that "Skid" is not missing in action and about his reaction to Mel Murray's death. He is glad to hear about Bud Prior's citation and Air Medal and asks about school and for news of friends and family at home. He sent Fille some French, Dutch, German, and English money and will try to send Jim some too. He thanks everyone for the valentines and asks that the packages of "food, candy, cigarettes," etc., keep coming. ; John R. Finn's education at Norwich University was interrupted by World War II. During the war, he served in the 8th Armored Division of the U. S. Army in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart after receiving a hand wound. He returned to Norwich University after the war and graduated with a BA degree in English in 1946.
