John Finn writes from Holland to his father, James G. Finn, in St. Albans, Vermont, on 17 February 1945; there are signs that Spring is coming and he believes the war in Europe won't last more than four more months. He just got the news about Mel Murray and wishes that "the big money guys" back home would go to the front and realize that "this stuff is something besides a money making proposition." He mentions that he can always use socks and lists several other items that he would like. ; John R. Finn's education at Norwich University was interrupted by World War II. During the war, he served in the 8th Armored Division of the U. S. Army in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart after receiving a hand wound.
