Netherlands East Indies exhibit

Exhibit screens and cases from the Netherlands or Dutch East Indies exhibition in Stanley Field Hall. The exhibit screens focus on recent colonial history, while the exhibit cases include gamelan instruments, Javanese puppets, and other artifacts. Indonesia declared its independence in the summer of 1945, not long after this photograph was taken, but it would take another four years of struggle before the Dutch officially recognized Indonesian independence.
