Pakistan is one of the major remittance-receiving countries. Foreign remittances to the country exceed other public and private financial inflows. In this study, we examine some aspects pertaining to the nature, causes and consequences of migrant remittances. We find that remittances to Pakistan are relatively stable, and are motivated by mainly altruistic reasons. They also respond to host-country economic conditions.
