Research on treating specifically the long-lived and high level nuclear wastes, notably cesium, is currently carried out in France. Cesium immobilization in host matrices of high chemical durability constitutes the favoured option. Hollandite matrix is a good candidate because of its high cesium incorporation ability and its excellent chemical stability.
