Betty Aileen Ayres (nee Pantling) and Albert Edward Ayres, he was always called Burt. They married during the war in 1943 in St Marks Church, Belgrave, Leicester. Burt served in the Royal Artillery before joining the parachute regiment. his unit was 156 Battalion 2 para, and he rose to the rank of Sgt. He was based at Somerby, near Melton.
