The 1941 Animated Magazine contributors included: Spressard L. Holland (honorary degree), Maurice Maeterlinck (honorary degree), Archduke Otto of Austria, Osa Johnson (honorary degree), Anne O'Hare McCormick (honorary degree), Rex Beach (honorary degree), Marjorie Rawlings (honorary degree), Frank Case, Katherine Dayton, columnist of the Orlando Sentinel "Col. Cloudburst," and Seminole Indian Charlie Billy Boy. Hamilton Holt (left) and E.O. Grover walk through the crowd prior to the commencement of the magazine. In 1926, when Dr. Grover came to Rollins as professor of books, he was discussing publicizing the college with President Holt one day, when Dr. Holt suddenly said "Let's get out a Rollins Magazine". "That's fine," Dr. Grover, who had been in the publishing business with Ginn and Company for 30 years, agreed. "But why not put out an 'animated' magazine?" "What do you mean, animated?" queried Dr. Holt. "Why, bring the contributors here," Dr. Grover said. "Let them give their contributions in person-it would be far more interesting than reading a magazine-and it's never been done before!" Dr. Holt's nimble imagination immediately caught the drama of such an idea, and the two Rollins leaders got their heads together and came up with the first published Animated Magazine" in February of 1927. Among the first contributors to that first magazine were Irving Bachellor, Jane Addams, Aga Khan Raza, Ross Allen, Roger Babson, Rex Beach and other notables of the day. Since then other famous names have appeared on subsequent programs, including Gen. Carlos Romulo, Countess Alexandria Tolstoy, John P. Marquand, Gen. Omar Bradley, Alex D. Severesky, Adm. Alan G. Kirk, Mary Pickford, James Cagney, Carl Sandburg, Greer Garson, Mary Margaret McBride, and many many others.
