The Kingdom of Holland, a regime headed by a brother of the French Emperor, was only one of the forms of French domination over the former Republic of the United Provinces, between 1795 and 1813. But it is probably the most ambiguous. From a sister republic, the Batavean Republic, created in 1795, in the spring of 1806 it became an independent kingdom, but entrusted to Louis Bonaparte.
