Flight of the Israelites Before Ai, and the Burning of Achan ; After the capture of Jericho the Israelites suffered a reverse before the town of Ai. The curse of Jehovah was aroused by Achan who had kept some of the booty from Jericho for himself. So Achan with his children were stoned and burnt with his gold and all his possessions (Joshua 7). Pieter Coecke van Aelst designed this in his fluent Mannerist style. The workshop monogram on this set was earlier ascribed to the Dermoyens, but probably belonged to the lesser known Gielis Imbrechts, who worked for the firm of Dermoyen as a subcontrac... Mehr ...
