Homage of the Portuguese ambassador to the king of Kongo in 1491 ; A richly dressed Portuguese is shown paying homage to the Kongo king who sits on an elevated platform. At his feet lie European objects including a chalice and a crucifix, both likely to have been gifts fro the visitor. Though there are no known Kongo versions or the chalice, and no Kongo-Portuguese saltcellars, the crucifix was copied by Kongo artists.
