Portrait of a Young Man
The sitter holds a heart-shaped devotional book and his glance suggests that another picture, possibly an image of the Virgin and Child, was joined to this, to make a diptych. On the ledge are an inkpot and pencase. In the background is the church of Notre Dame du Sablon, Brussels, the town where the artist probably worked. He is named after a painting with a view of the church of St Gudula in Brussels. (http://www.nationalgallery.org.uk)
