This image contrasts the styles of two of the most influential Baroque artists, Nicolas Poussin and Peter Paul Rubens. Although they were contemporaries and both interested in Greco/Roman history and mythology, they developed two varying approaches to depicting this subject matter. Rubens combined the developments of the Italian Renaissance and Italian Baroque with his own Flemish painting heritage; the result was an innovative, dynamic style, known as International Baroque, which was truly the first pan-European manner.
