Flanders played defensive end for the football team throughout his four years at Springfield, and majored in biology/pre-med. He was named one of 1985's 11 National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Scholar-Athletes. He was also a two-time All New England first team selection and a first team Academic All American, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
