This research aims to explain the historical events, background and facts of relations between Russia and the Dutch East Indies which are described in Tan Teng Kie's poetry Sair dari hal datengnja poetra makoeta Keradjaan Roes di Betawi, dan pegihnja and in Esper Ukhtomsky's diary entitled Eastern journey of His Imperial Majesty Tsarevich in 1890—1891.
