This object was commissioned by the city of Breda as a gift for Philip, Count of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Langenburg (1550-1606) in gratitude for the count's remission of two months' arrears of pay that the city owed him as commander-in-chief during the taking of Breda, using a peat-barge as a kind of Trojan horse, in 1590.
