Covered bowl

Porcelain Wan Li bowl with silver mounts. This is the earliest example of a Chinese porcelain object provided with silver mounts in the Netherlands. The arms on the cover-knob are those of Geliius van Hillama (died 1626), councilor at the Court of Friesland and curator of Franeker's "Hogeschool', and his wife Auck Herckesdochter van Haersma. This couple were probably the bowl's first owners. Alternately, the object may have been a gift for their daughter Hauckje, who was married in 1618 to Hector Jacobus van Bovricius.
