Mountainous Valley with Fenced Fields
A wide panorama is depicted, looking down from the side of a hill. In the valley lie a series of farmsteads amid fenced fields. The wooden fence on the right accentuates the distance and depth of the land below, while the cerebral pattern of the rocks on the left add an element of fantasy to the landscape. Hercules Segers was an artist with a passion for experiment. Because of the various techniques he used, his prints became known as printed paintings.
