Dutch Thatched Roof Houses: Topographic Views

Large house with complex thatch roof and extended portico over garage; Good quality straw thatch can last for more than 50 years when applied by a skilled thatcher. Good thatch does not require frequent maintenance. In Europe a ridge normally lasts 8-14 years, and re-ridging is required several times during the lifespan of a thatch. Thatching is becoming popular again because of the renewed interest in preserving historic buildings and using more sustainable building materials; however it is expensive and is now a symbol of wealth rather than poverty.
