Principles of Roman Law absorbed in the New Dutch Civil Code

In this lecture I want to discuss principles of Roman law which have been absorbed in the new Dutch Civil Code. It will be clear that, before I can begin to examine these principles, I will have to give some information about the development of Dutch private law since its first codification and to explain the exact meaning of the words "the New Dutch Civil Code". At the end of this essay I will make a few remarks on the importance of a good knowledge of Roman private law for the comparison and the unification of private law systems in Europe.
