Canvas and leather medicine pouch, Brussels, Belgium, 1914-1

Used by the Belgian Army during the First World War, this medicine pouch was probably carried by a stretcher bearer giving emergency treatment to wounded soldiers. The canvas pouch is filled with six packets of dressings for wounds and is marked with a red cross. It would have been attached to a belt and worn round the waist. The words “Adolphe Fountaine” and “Brussels, Belgium” are printed on the pouch lid indicating who made it and where. maker: Fontaine, Adolphe Place made: Brussels, Brussels, Belgium
