peer reviewed ; Background: : GBS cause severe infections in neonates, pregnant women and other adults. Empiric therapy is usually started before susceptibility results are available. Early neonatal diseases can be prevented with intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis based on accurate susceptibility surveillance data.
