In the Viroin Valley (south of Belgium), some traditional practices still run every year, at the end of winter. This article takes stock of the situation and shows how village carnivals and Lent fires can improve the cultural identity and social cohesion. ; Dans la vallée du Viroin, au sud de la province de Namur, chaque village possède encore certaines coutumes carnavalesques et, souvent, un "Grand feu" de carême. L'article fait l'état des lieux, étudie l'évolution de ces traditions et montre comment elles renforcent l'identité culturelle et la cohésion sociale locales.
