Belgium's education system, in order to ensure sustainable development, public and private, must constantly develop and implement new forms and methods for the production and dissemination of new knowledge, the transfer of new technologies, the preservation of academic identity and national cultural heritage. The article attempts to characterize the trends in the development of general music education in educational institutions of the Kingdom of Belgium. In accordance with the curriculum to determine the content and organization of the educational process, in relation to lessons and extracurricular activities on artistic and aesthetic education of children and youth. Secondary schools in Belgium, ensuring access to education and fairness in education, knowledge acquisition, promote the intellectual development of the younger generation, are centers of spiritual and cultural education, a place for cultural and educational activities. According to the curricula, music lessons and extracurricular work on music and aesthetic education of children and youth are part of the educational paradigm of the school education system in Belgium. The system of general music education is characterized by a stable approach to determining the content, forms and methods of work. Children are involved in music in lessons and in art groups, where they gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to master a musical instrument, solo singing or group music. Involvement of students in active musical activities has a positive effect on the level of general musical development, the formation of artistic and aesthetic qualities and the development of intellectual and creative abilities at the stage of personal development.
