International audience ; In recent years, six suspected cases of sacred forests consisting of trees, shrubs or poles have been studied using earth and life sciences. Two were identified as 'sacred woods', respectively of celtic and Gallo-Roman age. For four other cases, including one in a Gallo-Roman sanctuary, the interpretation proved to be more complex, or even unrelated to humans. The study allows a comparison of the methods used and the results obtained, as well as a perspective on the contribution of these to the characterisation of possible ritual contexts.
