By analysing the displays in eight museums in north-eastern Europe in 2013, prior to the centenary commemorations, different museum approaches can be compared. Some of these museums have been completely renovated for the event. Most of the themes and narratives presented are of a similar nature (the soldier at the front, the cultures of war, and so on) but others are approached from different viewpoints and dealt with in different emotional moods.
