Birds are good indicators of environmental quality since their occurrence is determined by the characteristics of the habitat in which they are found and they are also seen with relative ease. The vegetation of La Sabana park is being gradually replaced from 6,498 trees (87% eucalyptus) in 2011 to about 5,000 trees from approximately, 217 species in 2017. Since the beginning of the project, efforts have been made to monitor changes in birdlife. Four counts were performed, three of which were carried out on Friday, March 3 at 5:30, 3:00 PM, and 6:00 PM, and a count at 5:30 on Saturday, March 4, 2017 Students from Universidad Estatal a Distancia (State Distance University) (UNED) who belong to the recreational groups Ruta Verde and Ecosimbiosis participated in the counts. In total 41 species were observed in the four counts with 343 birds for the counts (in the night count no birds were observed). In La Sabana Park, it is common to observe bird species habituated to fragmented and open sites, such as grazers, pigeons and white-winged pigeons. The presence of fruit-bearing trees could especially favor frugivorous species such as grazers, purple pigeons, widow birds, among others. Some mature eucalyptus trees, due to their size, serve as a perch or roost for parrot species, possibly to ensure a site away from predators. ; Las aves son buenas indicadoras de la calidad ambiental pues su ocurrencia está determinada por las características del hábitat en que se encuentran y además son organismos que se avistan con relativa facilidad.
