Methods used for peak-mortality studies in populations of wild birds : application to the White Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia on the Banc d'Arguin National Park (Mauritania) and to the Eider Duck Somateria mollissima in the Wadden Sea (The Netherlands) between 1997 and 2002 ; Méthodologie d'étude des pics de mortalité dans les populations d'oiseaux sauvages‎ : application aux spatules blanches Platalea leucorodia du banc d'Arguin (Mauritanie) et aux eiders à duvet Somateria mollissima de la mer des Wadden (Pays-Bas) entre 1997 et 2002

Wild birds are highly sensitive to variations of their environment. Many factors can cause peak-mortality in their populations. Research of these causes falls into three steps, beginning with a precise description of the problem. Hypotheses should then be raised and tested. Eventually, some pieces of answer can be given to the initial question. This method was applied to two current problems : Spoonbills in the Banc d'Arguin National Park in Mauritania and Eider ducks in the Wadden Sea in the Netherlands. The answers proposes leave a large space for further investigation. Thanks to such studie... Mehr ...
