With the general ageing of the population, the question of the maintenance in residence of elderly people becomes dominating; it means that the concepts of quality of life and well-being must be analyzed differently with the glance of the age of the people. For those 60 years or more living at home, in a town of medium size like Luxembourg, needs as regards assistance in care in residence, or the appreciation of the neighborhood, for example, are determining factors for the maintenance at home of the old people. Moreover, the very large majority of these people wish to remain longest possible in their housing, making of their neighborhood a being essential for them to maintain their well-being. This communication is about a method of measurement of the maintenance in residence, issued from a research from three years, having mobilized researchers of several disciplines. This method integrates at the same time the measurement of the well-being of the elderly people, of their spatial surrounding, essential elements of the quality of life, but also of other spheres, crucial for the balance of the old person, like the social networks. ; Face au vieillissement général de la population, la question du maintien à domicile des personnes âgées devient prépondérante, en sachant que les notions de qualité de vie et de bien-être ne peuvent s'appréhender de la même manière au regard de l'âge des personnes. Pour celles de 60 ans ou plus vivant dans leur propre logement, dans une ville de taille moyenne comme Luxembourg, les besoins en matière d'assistance en soins à domicile, ou l'appréciation du quartier, par exemple, sont des facteurs déterminants pour le maintien à domicile des personnes âgées. En outre, la très grande majorité de ces personnes souhaitent rester le plus longtemps possible dans leur logement, faisant de leur quartier un référent incontournable dans le processus de bien-être.
